Roatan, Honduras Luna Beach Resort Newsletter Update: July 2007

Luna Beach Resort Continues To Rate Tops of Honduras Hotels…

We are excited to announce the completion of our new entrance and spectacular two lane, private road into Luna Beach Resort. You will reach the new entrance from the West Bay Road, which eliminates the slow, rough ride through West End. This new road also avoids any further burden on the Beach strip between West End and Luna Beach Resort.

While driving down one of the best roads in Roatan, nearly a mile long, you will be amazed at the beautiful and dense jungle with all its exotic flowers, gigantic trees and little streams. Roatan is truly a bird watchers and plant lover’s paradise. The instant you pass our new entrance sign a vacation for body and soul begins!

Luna Beach Has The Power!

With all of the Island’s electrical supply difficulties, Luna Beach Resort decided to take action. We’ve installed three large generators for the convenience of our guests. So from now on candlelight is only needed for the ambience.

The Luna Beach Bird Cage

Every morning our macaws welcome the rising sun and practice their communication skills. Since not all of our guests are such early birds, the macaws have now received a new home next to the dive center. From now on, the early morning Spanish lessons taught by the macaws take place on the beach.

Everyone invited!

No Traffic On Luna Beach

Luna Beach Resort is proud to announce that we were given permission to block off our beach to all vehicles. All beaches in Honduras are public, so we are very happy to be able to offer this benefit to our guests. Time to get onto your hammock and chill out while watching the breathtaking sunsets…

Luna Beach Invites More Dive Staff to the Team

We are very happy to welcome several new dive staff members to help meet all the needs of our divers and give them the attention they deserve. There will be no more possible closings of the dive shop during dives. Many Roatan hotels experience issues of short staff and Luna Beach has overcome this obstacle. Luna Beach Resort always has a wonderul Dive Shop assistant available to help you take care of snorkel-gear rental or just answer your questions. To find out about the new members of the Luna Beach Dive Shop please check: http://www.lunabeachresort.com/about.shtml.

The Luna Beach Dive Shop is setting up an artificial reef around the pier, which has already attracted the first seahorses, octopuses and other wonderful creatures.

Our 25 foot boat “Prince” is going to be remodeled so it can be used for two-tank dive trips. There will be a sun top, a bigger and more stable ladder to get back on board, tank racks etc. With this two tank trip boat, we will be able to offer special trips to dive sites that are further away.

There were already several dolphin encounters this year. Though they were wild pods (up to 30), they were very curious and stayed up to one hour with our snorkelers and divers. Moreover, the number of shark encounters (nurse sharks) are increasing again.

Wireless networking is now available for our guests that bring their own computers. We also have a computer in the front office for the guests that don’t want to bring their own computers.

Caribbean Dive Tips and Hints

Island Legend

In 1638 Spanish and English settlers came to the island of Roatan to establish a colony. They were soon invaded by pirates who attacked and plundered the new colony. Raiders occupied the settlements and defended it as their own. Ownership of the island bounced between the English and the Spanish until 1859 when England relinquished control of the bay islands to the Republic of Honduras. Legend has it that ghost of the past or “dupees” have been seen by the locals. They tell that pirates barring gold would kill a man and leave the body to watch his treasure. After centuries the ghost gets restless and will whisper the exact directions of the treasure so that the seeker can find the gold. As derived from www.roatanhistory.com
