The further adventures of the Luna Beach Resort Dive Team!

Congratulations to Rob and Ronna for joining the Luna beach 100 and 50 dive club recently.
They dove with the Luna beach dive team of Martin and Coralee and had a fantastic week of diving where we saw turtles, dolphins and eagle rays. Unfortunately no seahorses this week!
‘Twas the night dive before Christmas
And all through the reef
Not a creature was stirring, most were asleep.
The corrals were all hungry with polyps like hairs
Hoping that some plankton soon would be theirs.
Parrot Fish were snuggled in their mucus sacks
Hoping that this would prevent deadly night attacks.
Up on the surface their came quite a call
It’s the dive boat tying up to the site mooring ball.
Divers with BC’s tanks, mask and fins
Step off the boat to go for a swim.
With flashlights ablaze they descend through the dark
Knowing SAC rates will climb if they should see a shark.
The dive master directs them on which way to go
Hoping to see some crustaceans you know.
40 minutes later, we sit on the sand,
All in a circle, with flashlights in hand.
Switch off our lights, waive our arms, and what should appear,
Why bioluminescence of course, and strings of pearls I cheer.
The dive is over we ascend to the surface,
Climb on the boat, it is quite a circus.
As we stand on the stern what does appear,
A miniature sleigh with eight tiny reindeer.
It streaks through the sky so fast and alive.
I hear, Merry Christmas to all who dare to night dive.

The whole staff at Luna Beach Resort wishing you a joyous Holiday. May your Christmas be full of blessings and your New year full of prosperity, good health and happiness.
If you are spending the holidays with us, we can’t wait to share this time with you. I you have reservations for the New Year, we’ll see you soon and if you still have not made a reservation contact us and we’ll help you plan a wonderful vacation in Paradise.
Peace to All!
The dive shop has been listening to recent diver comments and we have addressed the rinse tank area to make it more accessible. No longer do you have to fight your way to the rinse tank or wait for the divers to clear the area before you can rinse your gear down. The steps from the dive shop have now gone and this has allowed us to rotated the old rinse tank around and gain more usable space. Access to the rinse tank area is now gained via the car park area. With more space, we now can have three dedicated rinse tanks, one for regulators, another one for wetsuits and the big white tank for general equipment, bcds, fins, mask etc. We think it will improve the dive shop especially during busy season but if we need to tweak it again we will do so.

As you all know Roatan never had any political problems from the ousting of the Old President. Well now since the election on November 29th and the election of the new President everything on the mainland is back on track, also.
The state department has lifted the travel alert, so any of you that were concerned about this before need not be now.
Come to the beautiful and peaceful Island of Roatan and see what the true meaning of Paradise is.
See you soon!

At Luna Beach Resort we recognize that tourism is the world’s largest industry and travelers are increasingly concerned about their destination’s environmental condition. Divers and industry leaders have a responsibility to preserve local resources they depend on every day.
The dive team at Luna Beach has for sometime been providing customers with experiences that enhance visitor awareness, appreciation and understanding of the environment and we have demonstrated a commitment to conservation. Project AWARE Foundation recently acknowledged us an ECO Operator.
As an ECO Operator Luna Beach Resort pledges to:
People read that Honduras is not a safe place to travel, there has not been any problems except for what the media has perceived.
Roatan has not and should not have any political problems, it is very safe to travel to Roatan. We are not connected to the mainland. As a famous writer told me “Roatan/The Bay Islands are not really part of the Honduras, but people just don’t get it.”
So don’t think twice about your safety coming to Roatan, you will be missing out on true Paradise if you do not come.
PS – the cruise ships are bringing in 4 boats a week, they would not come if there were any threats to be concerned about.
See you soon!

Steffen and Anje recently completed their open water course at Luna beach with freelance instructor Marco. A great time was had by all.
Congratulations to Stefen and Anje and we hope to see you back on Roatan soon.
New members of the 500 and 100 dive club!
Congratulations to Lyndon Bridgwater and Adam Baxter for logging 100 and 500 dives respectively whilst at Luna Beach recently. Adam is the only member of the Luna beach 500 club but Lyndon joins Mike Birmingham in the 100 dive club.

The REAL Story from a Roatan Dive Resort
With all the news coming out of Honduras, we thought is would be good to see what’s happening in the country, specifically the island of Roatan – a popular place for dive travelers.
It is very perplexing for us to be here at the Bay Islands, enjoying the fabulous diving and tranquility, and see the shameful, inaccurate reporting by the news media of the political situation in Honduras, especially by CNN.
They won’t let go of the erroneous idea that we had a military take over of government. CNN continues to use the description “military backed government.” This is simply not the case, any more than the US Government is a “military backed government.” We are led to believe that we are under marshal law, and there is rioting and “chaos” in the streets. It’s just not so.
Cam and I have very close friends in Tegucigalpa and La Ceiba who are “on scene” where whatever is reported to be happening, isn’t happening, and they are appalled by the way the media is distorting this story. Peaceful marches are reported as angry demonstrations.
Equally distressing is that nobody is telling “the real story”, that of the resolve and pride of the Honduran people, who have legally, properly, and without bloodshed, removed a treasonous, lying, law-breaking, would be socialist/communist dictator from power, not through a military coup, as reported, but through the peaceful, constitutional process as prescribed by Honduran law.
Instead of the world applauding and embracing the wonderful, friendly people of Honduras, who have demonstrated real democracy in action, they are being vilified in the world press, by the UN, by the OAS and worst of all, by the country that claims to be the poster child for democracy – the USA. Had the people thrown out Ahmadinejad or Kim Jong-il, I think there would be a different reaction. I don’t understand it.
On Roatan, it’s life as usual. In the Bay Islands, our guests are enjoying their vacations, diving and snorkeling as usual. Airlines have been flying their regular schedules in and out of Roatan. It’s been kind of perversely funny to be living here, knowing that little is going on, yet watching the distorted news reports.
My 15 year old grand daughter will be coming next week for a month. The guests, who arrived Saturday, without incident, do not feel threaten, scared, or endangered in any way, and are diving every day, and enjoying the tranquility of the Bay Islands.
In fact, if they were not watching the news, they would have no inkling that there was anything going on.
